Conspiracy of Google - Our Favourite Friend or Foe ?

While surfing on the internet, I chance upon this video. It talks all about Google, and the conspiracy of it all.
The video is damn cool, giving a Godfather Mafia kind of feel,
telling us that

Google
is the Most Powerful Search Engine On Planet Earth

It talks about the history of how Larry Page, a former student then came up with the Algorithmic Page Ranking  till today's evolution.

Whats also mentioned is about the rumor of how Google is cooperating Undercover with government CIA agencies to provide informations.

Google may have a comprehensive database file that stores each and everyone of us' Generic Personal Informations, including our Living Habits and Date of Birth.

Let me bring to you the attention that this video was first uploaded in the Year 2007. With the advancement of technologies in the IT infrastructure,I believed the information and power of Google would probably have increased over these years.

So how many of us here do we use

Wisdom words - Passion in what you do and Sadness of parting with someone close in family

Today, I have pleasure to see a Chief Operating Officer (COO) from a renowned Advisory Firm situated in Chinatown.

Booming with built and sturdiness, i observed he carried with him a Self -reflection Christian book in his hands.

Not to be mistaken by his huge status and figure, he is a guy full of soul and heart.. He left me with these words of wisdom.

"If a doctor is one who does not feel teary when announcing  the death of the loved one, do not engage him.

"Likewise, if an advisor were to attend a wake without feeling of crying, his services is not reliable too."

This was briefly along the line of a loose translation of what he said, and I remembered he looked at me and asked if I understood...

I actually wanted to say  i... .. .. understood. Instead I choose to nod silently.

His name is none other than Mr Peter Teong.  He was the co-founder of an advisory Firm : Elpis Financial.

This guy's words keep me reflecting on my personal ...
My own dad had departed us on the uneventful day of 17 September 2010. His memory lived in the heart of us family members and his friends that had never die.

These days, whenever I saw Ambulances, I will still shook my head in dismay.

And I can't explained the numerous times where I just had to wake up in the middle of my sleep at mid hours of the night .. with thoughts of my dad distinctively, then for moments I had to adjust which was the reality and which was dreams...

I hoped the dreams were real, as it sometimes seemed like a minute ago... Because, then I could tell my dad how much I loved him and how much things I will like to do together with him and my brother when we all were around.

This could well probably one of the last vivid living hardest memory in our family's hearts. Just last week. I went back to my parents' place to stay. The light bulb suddenly just got blown while my mum was using the bathroom. I rushed to get the problem fixed. But somehow there will be this tingling thoughts between us brothers :
" Why doesn't bulbs go burst when dad was around"

Perhaps, when dad was around, things got fixed pretty quickly and we were always living in confort and tend to take things slightly for granted.

So , for those who had living parents, really,,  do not take for granted.
Bring them out for a visit in other countries if they liked travelling;
Bring them for a good treat if they like to eat. For we never no the uncertainties in life.

Treasure whoever/whatever/whenever you had presently.
What we are today comes from our thoughts of yesterday, Our present thoughts build our life of tomorrow: Our life is the creation of our mind.

Make the Hopes of Today become the Reality of Tomorrow. Start planning today.

With warmest regards,
From the Heart of Patrick. I ❥ u all too.

PS:  Should you be interested to meet this great man, Mr Peter Teong I was telling you about, I will be most pleased to link him up. He is currently in the business of turning hopes into reality with the right financial and wealth planning available.

Mum is going to the Bank again - Is Fixed Deposit Or Structured Deposit Good?

Warning: The following contains financial references.

Hi fellow neighbours,

an average Singaporean frequents the Automated Teller Machine (ATM) every now and then... either for withdrawing out cash or simply to do Update Of Passbook. (Some aunties will prefer to pronounce this routine as Up - Day instead) They will typically say this:

" Eh Boy, I am going downstairs to UP- DAY  "da Book" ar... if the Day becomes black and rains, remember to Close the Windows"

Does a ATM Machine reminds you of Jackpot Machine?
Now my mum is one of whom simply adores to play with such Machines to do the usual Up-Day every other week. Like as if it was a Jackpot Machine.. That is something i could never comprehend.

Now, usually our beloved Bankers ☺ will start swarming by the banking hall to introduce certain Bank products such as Fixed Deposits or Structured Deposits to your mums.

A typical Fixed Deposit (Timed Deposit) interest rate  hover around 0.7% average per annum
whereas
A typical Structured Deposit (SD) interest rate hover around 1.5% average per annum
in the Singapore current market trend.

Various points to note for Fixed Deposit (Timed Deposit)

  1. Fixed Deposit, the tenor is more often than not determined by the client (yourself), and the interest payout is usually on a quarterly basis, month 3, month 6, month 9, month 12 respectively.
  • What this relates to means that say say if you were to put for 8 months, you will ONLY be getting the payout due till month 6.
  • What benefits a client is the true flexibility to make a withdrawal of this savings as and when without incurring a penalty cost of losing the principal amount.
Now, a typical Structured Deposit (SD) looked something like this where you can see the advertisement hanging on their bank walls:

A Typical Structured Deposit (Expired Promotion) from the Bank in the market.

At this time, mum will be gleaming with light :

"Wow... 8.75% returns? This is so good!?  Better than my Fixed Deposit at 0.7% ar."

And the Banker will say : "Yes Auntie... this is really good, it is 8.75% when you put for 5 years. Better than Fixed Deposit only gives 0.75%. Come auntie, I will explain to you more how this works at my desk"

Now we press the pause button and look back:

Note that the banker says 8.75% for 5 years,

so for simplicity and layman sake, we do a an average calculation and it will work out to be an approximately 1.75% only per annum.

Various points to note for Structured Deposit (SD)
  1. Essentially it contains a deposit and an investment product, where Returns is dependent on the performance of some underlying financial instrument. Typical financial instruments linked may include market indices, equities, interest rates, fixed-income instruments, foreign exchange or even combinations.
  2. The Client's principal amount will ONLY be repaid in full:
    (i) At maturity; or
(ii) If bank redeems it before maturity. This will apply only if your structured deposit includes an option that enables the bank to redeem or "call" the deposit before the maturity date for reasons specified in the terms and conditions of your contract.
  • What this relates to is that the bank has full control of the maturity or tenor period ultimately where you know you may be investing this additional funds with unpreparedness and planning of usage of it.
  • You may risk the potential of losing the principal amount should emergency happens and you need to touch this invested cash before the plan matures.

Furthermore, I will like to highlight, where Fixed Deposit (Timed Deposit) is covered under protection under the Deposit Insurance Scheme, Structured Deposit (SD) are not covered . For more information on the Deposit Insurance Scheme, which is administered by the Singapore Deposit Insurance Corporation, please visit www.sdic.org.sg.

Now, I will be  touching on this " growing monster " termed " Inflation ".

To better help you understand inflation:

Your cup of coffee at Kopitiam (coffee house) shrink in size with each growing year. Be it you like it a not.
there are some who prefers drinking from smaller cups b'cos it looks more Requisite and Cute
Newspaper reports indicate that our inflation rate currently stands at:

Inflation Rate in 2011 - Extracted on CNA
So what ya? Well, well reality kicks in,
Real life scenario of someone on my Facebook complaining about this causally.
::

You can Add Me in Facebook too.

Now, as i know you are smart (b'cos I only attract smart readers), a quick comparison with the typical average interest rates for Fixed Deposit Rates and Structured Deposit Rates in the market VS the Inflation Rate rising in Singapore nowadays, I will leave you to make a personal decision what to do with your current money/savings.

I have some people asking me:

"Now Patrick, tell me,  you told us so much about the Deposits, do you still encourage us to put into it?

I will say:

"Overall, the fact our Bank is doing a business for these products, there should be a need in the market.

Most importantly, I have to know what are your planning for the money, your objectives, your time." Fixed Deposits in my opinion is a fantastic product, because it is flexible, your principal is guaranteed by the bank, and it earns you relatively higher interest than the typical Savings account. This can be an excellent vehicle before the transition to enter another much "Savings / Investment" Vehicle.

What is Much worse is when you choose to do Nothing at all."

Sick with Flu Cough - Home Remedy - Honey Lemon ♨

Warning: The following is a Recipe.

Hi mortals,

Lately, B'cos of the poor weather, my wife got down with Common flu.

Poor Wife
and such virus you know spread very quickly... and I am down with a very Bad whopping Cough. Those that when I sleep my lungs also feel like squeezing me out.

I never like to eat Western Medicines since young. As I believed it makes me grow disorientated and restless.

So I went browse through the Web and looked for remedies to treat cough.

2 main ingredients kept pop out.
Lemon
Honey

Now most of us will CUT the lemon and squeeze it to get its juice, right?
(Ie: When you go to coffeeshop, the coffee auntie will do the same)

However, after more extensive research, I also learn that cutting the Lemon Peel may release enzymes recently found in the rind of many fruits, and these enzymes may change some costituints of the Lemon juice.

So, I have gone valleys and hills to extract to present to you the Original Receipe.
The Long Forgotten Folk Remedy For Cough Cure - Honey Lemon.

    ❇    ❇
  1. Fill a can with water and put a middle or big sized Lemon.
  2. Leave the can to boil for about 10-15 minutes till it bocomes soft but intact.
  3. Take the Lemon and squeeze it to extract its juice.
  4. Clear the juice or filter it.
  5. Add the juice to 1/2 cup of honey ( or about 60 ml).
  6. Serve 2 teaspoons with 1 cup of water.
  7. You may store the remaining in a jar. :)

❇       ❇

Try making and leave comments how does it taste and whether it helps. :)

With warmest regards,

I received this Little Leaflet on my doorstep - Jurong Town GRC - Strange Portal Like Maplestory?

Hi mortals,

If you are living around the Jurong Town GRC neighbourhood, chances are you would have received something stuck on your doorstep today, typically like this.

No, not another typical advertisment

In fact, it is an official book by the Jurong Town Council. Entitled:
Our Jurong Lake Story, Let's ride the wave of Transformation.

Offical Documents

In this comprehensive booklet, there are lots of interesting pictorials showing the highlights of growth in our neighborhood within the next 15 years.

In fact, I find it was very well conceptualized, with the artists' impression looking so damn realistic. (Obviously, because a lot of these structures are not even yet existing.)

Click it for view much clearly.
As I was happily enjoying these pictures leisurely, this page caught my eye.
The heading read : Gateway between Bukit Batok and Jurong East Town.
Wow, i was thinking to myself.
Gateway!?! Did I read correctly? Yes It says Gateway!

Well done , thank you my MPs. That means I will be able to "transport" from my home to my parent's home in double quick time. Kind of like a Portal eh?

Singapore is really a great home to live in, where our society lives up with the latest and highest level of technologies.

I am imagining myself able to teleport away.
Just like in some fantasy MPORG Game.

With warmest regards,
From the Dreamland of Patrick. I ❥ u all too.

My Blog Comment Policy

Comment Policy

I enjoy interacting with you and Crave to welcome your comments. To ensure that comments enhance and not detract from thatPatrickStar.blogspot.com, I created this formal comment policy.

Warning:
To be forewarned, this post is more on serious and dry note.

I will like to take a few minutes just to talk about leaving comments on this blog as I’ve had a number of interactions with readers and make sure that we are all on the same page to start new things straight up before it gets messy.

I am beginning to see tthere is a real spectrum of ways in which blog readers view and comments on sections of blogs.

These will range from ignoring them completely through to abusing them completely by automatically posting thousands of self serving and irrelevant comments with links to often pretty crude sites.

Along the spectrum between ignoring comments and spam are many many different approaches to comments by readers. Individually, bloggers have their own standards of what is and is not acceptable on their blog – some allow virtually any comment – others have language standards, others don’t allow signature links etc.

I am totally fine with the variety of approaches to comments – however I want to communicate to readers of this blog where I stand :

1. I love comments on this blog
- they are as important as anything I write myself. They add to the knowledge and community that we have here. If you want to comment then you’re more than welcome – whether you feel you are a beginner or an expert – feel free to have you say.

2. I delete spam – I have spam filters in place which automatically catch the majority of automated spam comments. I do not put up with it and if any slip through the filters I delete it immediately.

3. Relevant links in comments are actively encouraged - if you are leaving a comment on my blogs and want to point to a link on your own or someone else’s site that is relevant to the topic then please feel free to do so. This adds to the conversation and improves the blog too.

4. Irrelevant links are not encouraged – if you leave a comment with a link in it that has no relevance to the post you’re commenting on it could be be deleted. This is a trend that I see happening increasingly in many people's blogs. If you really want to annoy me then the way to do it is to do this on multiple posts. If you engage in this practice I would encourage you to think about the impact that such an approach has upon your reputation. (though i will not report you to the police, spammers)

5. I allow signatures in comments - As long as the comments were relevant and added something to the conversation. ie if you write a comment that says ‘nice’ or ‘good post’ or ‘great blog’ or ‘try viagra’ and then leave a signature on your comment then it could well be deleted.

I do not want to be taken for a ride and have my blog (which I put hours of work into each day) used in ways that don’t add value to it or the community around it. There is a fine line in moderating comments – and I want to be transparent as to my stance.

My advice to those commenting on blogs (not just mine) is that in a sense you are paying a home visit when you leave a comment. Comments have the ability to build up our tear down your reputation. They are a permanent record of who you are and what you stand for – so take care – be gracious – make sure they add value.

With warmest regards,
From the Desk of Patrick. I ❥ u all too.

Searching For Jobs Hunting Career Recruitment Agencies Journey ✍

Hi folks,

This is a continuation PART II from previous. Read more about it first.

I decided to find a job fast, took no chance and make a trip down to the individual recruitment agency instead; I targeted Tanjong Pagar as a destination as I briefly remembered there is Kelly Services and Addeco Branches there.

Upon reaching the Tanjong Pagar International Plaza, I approached the security counter.

Security Guard

Trying my luck taking an easy way out, I asked: "Hey, do you happen to know which floor are the recruitment agencies."

The security guard answered: Work agencies right? "Oh you head up to the second floor through the escalator, there is a bookstore "

As I slide up the escalator, I also began to wonder since when recruitment agencies are housed in bookshop one...

I identified a Indian Run Stationery store on the second level. Asked the Encik mending the store and he handed me a list. As his fingers pushed it into my hands, it was tight too, at the same time, he mouthed: "50 Cents"

I was like wow.. and exited the store. Preferred to stare at the noticeboard myself to guide my own way.

Goodness, these guys are clever. They learnt to work together, purely in cahoots.

Due to the time constraint, i only visited Kelly 2 branches. However after I went back home, did my homework and found this.

Here I am, as I am nice, I will be sharing this with you...
The Magical Scroll to your rungs of employment ladder, the key that opens the door to success. Well.. its 50 Cents worth of Info.

Here goes... If should this list below helped you in anyway, I will be most glad if you feel like it and treat me some kopi ya.
